22nd April 2008 - 10 NEW CHILDREN’S CENTRES FOR MEDWAY 

14 Children’s Centres are now open in Medway – up from just 4 two years ago.  The Sure Start Centres in Medway can now help support almost 11,000 children (10,899 in total) the Government has announced this week. 

Sure Start Children’s Centres are a one-stop shop for families and children under five. They offer easy access to a range of services including early years learning, childcare, family health services, and advice and support for parents. A recent independent evaluation report found that Sure Start was having a positive impact on the lives of children and families.

As a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department for Children,  Schools, and Families, I know the hard work that has gone into making these ten new Sure Start centres a reality. It really is great news and I think we should congratulate all of those at the14 centres across Medway for the work that they do every day of the week, be they volunteers, staff, parents or children; this couldn’t work without them.”
